In this year’s “Experimente mit Lehm”, which took place over four days each in June and July, the students once again faced the challenges of building with their own hands and feet.
In addition to the usual re/constructions of the claywalls, which were carried out under the supervision of master-plasterers Tatsuya Tokura and Makoto Tamura, one group devoted itself to designing the topography in the spirit of the japanese gardening. The designs for a small river, previously developed by the students on paper, met the existing site together with the master-gardener Yōsuke Yamaguchi. Influenced by the direct contact with the material and the feasible methodologies, the design changed fluidly and gradually embedded itself in the overall situation.
