Constructing Knowledge

Constructing_KnowledgeConference, Aachen, 5-6 November 2009

There are repeated calls at university level for architects to excel in research as well. This is something that does not come easily to the discipline, which is attuned between practice and teaching.

The “Constructing Knowledge / Das Wissen der Architektur” conference taking place at the beginning of November is an important step in establishing a research culture at the Faculty of Architecture. The occasion of the conference is the launch of the new architecture magazine Candide, which is based on a blind review process. Journal for Architectural Knowledge, founded and published by the teaching and research department.

The call for papers for the conference met with an unusually large response. 111 abstracts from all over Europe, North America, as well as countries from Asia and Latin America were submitted, from which twenty speakers were invited to give a presentation in a “double blind review”.

On Thursday evening, Mario Carpo (Atlanta) will give a keynote lecture. This will be followed by the launch party for the first edition of Candide.

Participation in the conference is free of charge for RWTH members; however, registration via www.canddiejournal.net is required.
