The aim of this impromptu project is to improve the conditions of use of the Bundeskunsthalle’s roof terrace. The building was planned in the early 1990s by architect Gustav Peichl. The task is to design a sustainable garden project. Criteria are the resource-conserving choice of materials (urban mining, upcycling), sustainable water management, use of solar and wind energy, choice of planting and the concept for garden maintenance. Due to the difficult access to the roof, the aim is to invent a modular, demountable system. The roof garden is intended to enrich the museum with a shady, wind-protected place that invites visitors to linger.
