We recognize a series when similar elements are in a familiar context. A series is not an object, but rather a method, procedure, or system that creates or represents a connection between things. Series reveal a game of nuances, differences, variations, and repetitions.

For our M1 project, we are exploring the aesthetic and constructive aspects of architectural seriality. We are examining examples from recent architectural history that demonstrate the use of serial strategies. Seriality is also a concept that we encounter today. Seriality is intended to accelerate construction processes and reduce costs. In serial processes, sustainable building components are produced in large quantities.

The M1 project’s task is to design an exhibition presenting and discussing historical and current aspects of serial construction. The exhibition will take place at the Museum of Applied Arts in Frankfurt am Main. Students who enroll in the course will receive an introduction to exhibition design theory and practice, and will subsequently apply their studies on seriality to their own designs. The M1 project includes an excursion to Frankfurt, which will likely occur during “White Week.”
