This research module is part of the Indo-German university cooperation with IIT Roorkee, supported by DAAD. It will extend a common inventory of Indian and European named “Experimental Architecture and Material Culture”. This inventory – integrating operational knowledge on substances – will serve as a base for further research in the domain of sustainable architecture. We will analyze historical sources and useful theoretical writings. These materials formed the basis of new discourses in the field of ecological and design-build practices in architecture. In particular, we will try to identify some key issues around which to develop research questions as well as innovative epistemological orientations. The writing of research essays will be the core of the didactic experience. There will be the opportunity to explore some archives and unpublished materials of some of the main pioneers of experimental design of the last decades.
